From the Chair: National Convention Report
If you were not able to attend the 2026 National Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan, you missed an exciting one. For me getting there was a bit of a challenge. My husband and I flew into Chicago and rented a car. Our plane ran late and the rental car place was closed when we got there. That was a mess, and we made it to the hotel at 5:30 in the morning. What a crazy day.
Enough about our adventures, on to the convention. The convention packages were a little on the expensive side so we opted for just business. I decided to ask our fellow California libertarians who attended some of the other breakout sessions what they liked and disliked about the convention. Most really enjoyed hearing Ammon Bundy speak. They didn’t know the full story of what happened at his ranch stand off and appreciated hearing it directly from him. Justin Amash gave a great rallying keynote speech. Independent journalist Ford Fischer spoke about paying attention to the police and politicians, and stressed the importance of recording everything–it’s your right!
On the downside of the convention a few people thought there was too much down time and it could have been more organized and the voting system should be brought up to date with the new age. Over all, we always enjoy seeing our fellow Libertarians from other states. There was some drama at the convention but if you want to know more about that you will have to watch the videos that are floating around. Grand Rapids is a beautiful town and it had plenty of great places to eat. We are all looking forward to the 2028 Convention in El Paso. Texas. See you all there!

In the News: The Primaries
A quick message here to remind you that while voting matters, it’s about 1% of the engagement you should be pursuing in your community. The worst temptation of voting is telling yourself, “well, I guess that’s done,” and then dusting off your hands and ignoring government shenanigans until the next time you get a ballot in the mail. Things are happening all the time, and you need to be aware of those things.
Read the agendas for your local city council. Find out what’s happening in your local school district. Watch for opportunities to hear the County Supervisors speak. You need to be involved, and that starts from being informed. As we head into summer, use this time to figure out how to get informed.

State chair Loren Dean has a report of his own on things he saw at the National Convention. Find it on his substack here:
The World Cup is in full swing, and one of the most fun stories coming out of it is a reminder of how much fun American road tripping is. If you want to fall in love with America, taking a road trip is definitely the way to do it. https://www.fastcompany.com/91558801/buc-ees-big-gulps-walmart-world-cup-tourists-love-america
Joyce Brand writes about governance, and has some thoughts on Hong Kong.
Speaking of governance, since June and July both now focus on huge collectivist projects, consider some ideas about the Constitution that aren’t generally taught in school: https://www.la-articles.org.uk/FL-5-4-3.pdf?utm#page=2

The LPCA Candidate Support Committee exists to give our candidates what they need to compete: website resources, data analytics, voter outreach tools, and more. These things are unglamorous but extremely important, and the need to fund that infrastructure is critical. $25 makes a difference. So does $250. So does $2,500. Every dollar you give is a direct investment in the fight against the State. Please make a contribution at https://www.candidate.fund
